I first heard of him when visiting West Point with my son, who later became a cadet and a member of the Class of 2004. Today I was researching Hanover, NH and Dartmouth, and saw the Thayer School of Engineering. West Point and it's position as the premiere military school in the world is a lasting tribute this great man, indeed 'The Long Grey Line' starts with Sylvanus Thayer!
