I have had the privilege of working with Tillman for almost 9 years now - mostly in his academic lab at Thayer School but also some for both Glycofi and Adimab. The article is a great reflection of who Tillman is both as a scientist who wishes to accomplish certain goals but also as a person who values those around him for what they can contribute and who they are. I look forward to seeing what the future brings for Tillman and the great scientific teams he continues to put together!

My first research experience was in Tillman's lab, where he taught me to tackle the tough problems that matter. Even though my formal training under him has ended, I have repeatedly returned to Tillman for career and scientific advice--something that I will continue to do.

“People love working with Tillman because they know that he is supremely ethical and fair,” says Errik Anderson, who is now Adimab’s chief operating officer. “Every decision he makes is grounded in the facts of the situation. He doesn’t let his personal ambitions get in the way of doing the right thing, which is probably why he’s been so successful.”

- That is the truth! I met Tillman when I was a student at Thayer in 1998. He was very tough and demanding as a professor and an adviser, but he taught me the importance of being honest and working hard in science and in business. I've been in biotech for 10 years now, have worked on both coasts, and have run across very people like Tillman. Thayer, Dartmouth, and the Upper Valley are very lucky to have someone like him in the community.

I've been lucky enough to know Professor Gerngross both in the classroom and entrepreneurial settings and this excellent article speaks to both. Who else would equate enzyme reactions with bathing suits in the North Pole?

All Dartmouth engineers and aspiring entrepreneurs should pay close attention to Gerngross' story and see what you can take away for yourself.
