Going in the direction of a modified major is such a great step for higher education. Training in both an engineering capacity with a liberal arts “twist” will simply make more well-rounded professionals. Thinking creatively is so much easier when a person is trained to look at things from a variety of angles, and this is just what these students are being taught to do. It’s fantastic! Good luck to them all!

Good susinct explanations, with both successes and failures. I was looking for engineering ideas that affect society. This site will definitely be used in school to satisfy our academic requiretment-engineering and society.

What a brilliant and fascinating man! I first heard of him when visiting West Point with my son, who later became a cadet and a member of the Class of 2004. Today I was researching Hanover, NH and Dartmouth, and saw the Thayer School of Engineering. West Point and it's position as the premiere military school in the world is a lasting tribute this great man, indeed 'The Long Grey Line' starts with Sylvanus Thayer!

These students are great representatives of the College. They demonstrate the value of a rigorous liberal arts education which still allows for focus and concentration. Best wishes to all of them.

I would love to study under this astounding innovator! I hope to become a biogenetic engineer and I have to say, if I could choose any mentor it would have to be Dr. Rosen. I applaud Dr. Rosen for his forward thinking and I fully intend to follow his example.

Wonderful story. I write about early computer history for my website. The genius (no exaggeration) that went into creating the Synclavier - along with the formation of the New England Digital Corporation - made possible a critical chapter in America's digital history. Thank you for posting.
